Ms. Gunderson is a managing principal and member of the Investment Committee for CarVal Investors, responsible for leading the firm’s investment strategy and management, as well as its global loan portfolios and real estate businesses. In addition, Ms. Gunderson manages investments in asset-backed securities globally, including residential mortgage-backed securities, commercial mortgage-backed securities and collateralized loan obligations. Prior to joining CarVal Investors in 1994, Ms. Gunderson was a manager in the financial services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers where she served investment fund, commercial banking and thrift clients. Ms. Gunderson earned her B.S. degree in business from the University of Minnesota and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive).
Mr. Cohen is a principal for CarVal Investors and is responsible for managing loan portfolio investments globally. Prior to joining CarVal in 2009, Mr. Cohen was responsible for structured finance transaction origination, analysis and execution at Garrison Investment Group. He was previously with Silver Point Capital where he deployed both debt and equity through a range of investments in various structured product and illiquid asset classes, including consumer receivables such as mortgages, auto finance and credit cards, rediscount lending and fixed income venture capital opportunities. Mr. Cohen also co-headed the financial services group within principal finance. Mr. Cohen was previously the CEO of Franklin Credit Management Corporation, a publicly traded specialty finance company and spent four years as the chief operating officer of MagnaCare. Mr. Cohen received his J.D. from NYU School of Law and his A.B. in political science from the University of Michigan, graduating with honors and distinction.
Mr. Huether is a principal for CarVal Investors. He is responsible for managing investments in residential mortgage assets, including mortgage-backed securities, asset-backed securities and loans. He also manages positions in commercial mortgage-backed securities and collateralized loan obligations for the firm. Prior to joining CarVal in 2008, Mr. Huether was with ResCap as a portfolio manager of RMBS, ABS, CMBS and residential mortgage loans. He also worked with AXA Investment Managers as a senior structured securities analyst. He received his B.S. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Mr. Lammin is a principal for CarVal Investors, responsible for managing investments in European loan portfolios. Prior to joining CarVal in 2011, Mr. Lammin was chief risk officer of the Home and Savings Bank in the U.K. He also served as chief operating officer at Cambridge Place Investments, and prior to that spent 16 years at RBS where he ultimately served as head of their Asset-Backed Commercial Paper (ABCP) platforms.
Mr. Sackett is a principal for CarVal Investors, responsible for managing investments in European loan portfolios. Prior to joining CarVal in 2009, Mr. Sackett was a managing director at Saxon Consultancy in the U.K. Prior to that, Mr. Sackett spent 12 years at Barclays, most recently as a director at Barclays Capital within the structured finance and asset backed securitization team. Mr. Sackett received his B.A. in economics from Heriot-Watt University.
Mr. Pelka is a managing director for CarVal Investors, managing investments in the North American loan portfolios business. Prior to joining CarVal in 2005, Mr. Pelka worked at Piper Jaffray in the investment banking group where he focused primarily on mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Pelka received his B.A. in economics from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota.
Mr. Abram is a director for CarVal Investors, responsible for managing investments in commercial mortgage-backed securities and other asset-backed securities. He received his MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and his B.S. in accountancy from the University of Illinois.
Mr. Crawford is a director for CarVal Investors, responsible for managing loan portfolio investments primarily in the U.S. market. Mr. Crawford has over 30 years experience in consumer and residential lending and servicing. Prior to joining CarVal in 2008, Mr. Crawford spent 10 years at Accredited Home Lenders, a nationwide non-prime originator and servicer based in San Diego. There he was responsible for risk management, underwriting, and servicing a $12 billion U.S. residential loan portfolio. Mr. Crawford received his B.S. in business from Iowa State University.
Ms. Fenske is a director for CarVal Investors, responsible for investing in credit-intensive consumer and residential loan portfolios. Prior to joining CarVal in 2000, Ms. Fenske was responsible for loan quality due diligence for the acquisition division of GMAC Mortgage Corporation. Ms. Fenske received her B.A. in Finance from the University of Northern Iowa and an MBA from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
Mr. Gable is a director for CarVal Investors. He is responsible for managing investments in non-agency, residential mortgage-backed securities and mortgage derivatives, as well as structured products. Prior to joining CarVal in 2008, Mr. Gable worked for GMAC’s Residential Funding Corporation where he managed investments in non-agency RMBS and derivatives for the company’s Principle Investment Account. He also worked for American Express Financial Advisors as a trading analyst. He received his B.A. in finance from the University of St. Thomas.
Dr. Hepworth is a director for CarVal Investors, responsible for managing investments in European structured products and CRE loan portfolios. Prior to joining CarVal in 2013, Dr. Hepworth was a director at BlackRock within their Financial Markets Advisory business advising European Financial Institutions and Governments on legacy distressed structured credit and whole loan portfolios. He also worked for RBS in their European Structured Credit Business and began his career at DrKW in their Structured Credit research team. Dr. Hepworth received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, London and M.Eng. from Cambridge University.
Mr. Hunt is a director for CarVal Investors, responsible for sourcing and managing investments in European loan portfolios. Prior to joining CarVal in 2015, Mr. Hunt was a director within KPMG’s global loan sales team where he ultimately led their team in Ireland, overseeing the sales of over €30 billion of loan portfolios for governments and European financial institutions, as well as advising funds on loan portfolio acquisitions. Prior to joining KPMG in 2010, Mr. Hunt worked for PriceWaterhouseCoopers’ Portfolio Advisory Group in London. Mr. Hunt received his BSc. in Natural Sciences from Durham University and is a Chartered Accountant.
Mr. O’Brien is a director for CarVal Investors, responsible for sourcing and managing investments in European loan portfolios. Prior to joining CarVal in 2013, Mr. O’Brien worked at Bank of Ireland where he led real estate and business loan restructuring. He also previously worked in investment banking with UBS in London and Goodbody Corporate Finance in Dublin. Mr. O’Brien received his B.A. in economics from University College Dublin and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Mr. Johnston is a director for CarVal Investors, responsible for managing investments in European loan portfolios. Prior to joining CarVal in 2013, Mr. Johnston was with Lloyds Bank focusing on deleveraging of the bank’s non-core portfolio across Europe. Mr. Johnston is a qualified lawyer having previously practiced in the banking and finance team of Jones Day in London. Mr. Johnston received his B.A. in economic history from the University of Exeter.
Ms. Joubrina is a director for CarVal Investors, responsible for managing investments in European loan portfolios. Prior to joining CarVal in 2013, Ms. Joubrina was with the Royal Bank of Scotland, responsible for origination and structuring of asset-backed, structured funding, capital and derivatives solutions for Southern European financial institutions and covered bonds globally. Prior to that, she worked at ABN AMRO on the Emerging Markets team and covered structured funding products. Ms. Joubrina received her M.Sc. in finance from London Business School.
Mr. Soetanto is a director with CarVal Investors responsible managing and analyzing structured products including U.K. residential mortgage-backed securities, U.S. non-agency residential mortgage-backed securities and collateralized debt obligations. Prior to joining CarVal in 2009, Mr. Soetanto was a senior risk manager with Prudential Asset Management in Singapore where he built a risk management framework for the company. He also worked for AXA Investment Managers and Residential Capital where he analyzed and structured non-agency RMBS. Mr. Soetanto received his M.B.A. from California State University-Fullerton and his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Mr. Soetanto is fluent in Indonesian.
