Ms. Gunderson is a principal and member of the Investment Committee for CarVal Investors, responsible for leading the firm’s investment strategy and management, as well as its global loan portfolios and real estate businesses. In addition, Ms. Gunderson manages investments in asset-backed securities globally, including residential mortgage-backed securities, commercial mortgage-backed securities and collateralized loan obligations. Prior to joining CarVal Investors in 1994, Ms. Gunderson was a manager in the financial services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers where she served investment fund, commercial banking and thrift clients. Ms. Gunderson earned her B.S. degree in business from the University of Minnesota and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive).
Mr. Balick is a senior managing director for CarVal Investors. Based in London, Mr. Balick leads CarVal’s real estate investment activities in Europe. Mr. Balick joined the firm in 1997 in the Paris office where he led investments in France. He moved to London in 2006 where he progressively took responsibility for European real estate. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Balick was a vice president in the Real Estate Investment Banking unit of Salomon Brothers in Europe where he was involved in the structuring of bond financings for the development of office buildings in Central London. Mr. Balick received his M.B.A. with specialization in finance from the Stern School of Business at New York University and his B.A. in mathematics from the Washington Square University College at New York University.
Mr. Kunkel is a managing director with CarVal Investors. He is responsible for acquisitions and management of debt and equity investments in commercial real estate properties throughout the U.S. Previously, he worked in CarVal’s portfolio management group, focusing on acquisitions and work outs across the global real estate portfolio. He also previously managed investments in commercial loan portfolios in the U.S. and Africa. Prior to joining CarVal in 2006, Mr. Kunkel was a venture capital investor with Technology Venture Partners in Boston. He received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a Finance B.S.B. with honors from the University of Minnesota. In addition, Mr. Kunkel holds CFA Charterholder and CPA designations.
Mr. Laurent is a managing director for CarVal Investors. Based in London, Mr. Laurent is responsible for originating and managing real estate investments in France. Prior to joining CarVal in 2003, Mr. Laurent was with GE Capital and GE Real Estate where he worked on various real estate portfolio acquisitions and disposals across Europe. Mr. Laurent graduated from EM Lyon with a major in Finance, he is fluent in French, English and Italian.
Ms. Malknecht is a managing director for CarVal Investors. She is responsible for the underwriting, acquisition, disposition and asset management of commercial real estate investments in the United States and Canada. Prior to managing real estate investments for CarVal, Ms. Malknecht was with a money management fund in the Financial Markets Division of Cargill. Prior to joining Cargill in 1990, Ms. Malknecht was a manager in Trade Finance with US Bank in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Prior to that she worked in the buying offices and treasury department for Target, Inc. Ms. Malknecht received a B.A. from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Mr. Maton is a managing director for CarVal Investors. Based in London, he is responsible for managing real estate investments in the U.K. Before joining CarVal in 2008, Mr. Maton was a property trader focusing on the U.K. residential market. Prior to that, he was a director at Citigroup, responsible for the execution of equity capital market offerings and was previously in the Real Estate and Structured Finance at Salomon Brothers. He graduated magna cum laude from Solvay Business School in Brussels with a major in finance. He is fluent in English, French and German.
Mr. Mullaney is a managing director for CarVal Investors’ North American Real Estate business. He is responsible for equity and structured finance of commercial real estate assets in North America. Prior to joining CarVal, Mr. Mullaney was an investment manager in Cargill’s Structured Finance Group. Before joining Cargill in 1987, Mr. Mullaney was a senior auditor for Coopers & Lybrand in Minneapolis, running audits on pension plans, real estate and insurance companies. Mr. Mullaney received his M.B.A. with a concentration in finance and his B.A. in accounting from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Mr. Mullaney is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Mr. de Latour is a director for CarVal Investors. Based in London, Mr. de Latour is responsible for portfolio management activities. He is responsible for analysis and underwriting of commercial real estate investments in France and the U.K. Prior to joining CarVal in 2007, Mr. de Latour was with DTZ Asset Management in Paris where he worked on real estate acquisitions and asset management in France and Italy. Fluent in French, English and Italian, Mr. de Latour graduated from Paris Dauphine University with a Masters in Finance and a B.A. in Management and Economics.
Mr. Salmon is a director for CarVal Investors. Based in Paris, Mr. Salmon is responsible for the origination, execution and management of real estate investments in France. Prior to joining CarVal in 2010, Mr. Salmon worked at LaSalle Investment Management in the special situations group. He was also previously with Lehman Brothers in the real estate investment banking group where he worked on transactions across Europe. Mr. Salmon received his Masters in business from ESCP Europe with a focus in finance and his Masters of engineering from ESIEE Paris.
Mr. Stanek is a director with CarVal Investors, responsible for originating and managing investments for the firm’s North American Real Estate business. Prior to joining CarVal in 2014, Mr. Stanek was with The John Buck Company as a senior vice president and was also previously with Merrill Lynch and LaSalle Bank. He received his M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and his B.B.A. in real estate and finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
